Following the final rounds held on 7 September at the headquarters of the Comité Champagne Champagne in Epernay, Olivier Caron, a teacher at the Jean Rose Hotel School in Meaux, was crowned the winner of the French final of the European Champagne Ambassadors’ Awards.
Three competitors had been shortlisted (Caroline Henry and Lei Meng were the other two), with Olivier Caron being unanimously chosen by the judging panel for his teaching ability, carefully structured presentation and the relevance of his tasting comments.
The judging panel made up of Laureen Baillette-Prudhomme (Champagne Baillette-Prudhomme), Nathalie Costa (journalist), Annabelle Hazard (sommelier at Les Grains d’Argent restaurant), Sandrine Logette (Champagne Duval-Leroy), Michel Valade and Thibaut Le Mailloux (the Champagne Committee) congratulated the three finalists for their commitment and the validity of their comments on this year’s topic - reserve wines.
Olivier Caron will now compete with the other eight winners from Germany, Austria, Belgium, Spain, UK, Italy, the Netherlands and Switzerland for the European title on 29 October.
