After a four-month selection process that challenged the respective skills of eight schools throughout the Benelux countries, finalists were selected from the VTI Schools in Louvain (Belgium) and Appeldorn (Netherlands).
The venue for the closing match, held in March 2013, was the Kookacademie in Eindhoven, Netherlands. Finalists were tested on four counts: culinary skills; the pairing of Belgian or Dutch local products with Champagne wine; knowledge of Champagne wine; and the serving of Champagne wine.
he panel comprised a mix of industry professionals, including several former winners of the Champagne Ambassadors Award; also well-known Belgian journalist François Pierssens and the head of Champagne Bureau, Benelux. The winner of this hotly-contested but always good-natured event was the VTI School in Louvain.
