Champagne Maurice Gonel et Fils
The Maurice Gonel Champagne adventure really began in 1931, when Maurice and Léone Gonel started marketing their wines under their own name. Settled in Damery, near Épernay, they managed a 4.5-hectare vineyard for almost 40 years, until they handed over to one of their 4 children, Paul dit "Nénet". A passionate winegrower, he dug out an entire level of cellars with his own pickaxe. He managed the estate from 1977 to 2015 alongside his wife Lucienne, then their son Guillaume, who joined them in the 2000s. Today, Guillaume and his partner Camille carry on the family legacy with the same passion as previous generations. They have implemented sustainable viticulture practices to maintain the quality of the soil: green leaf thinning, ploughing... This commitment has been rewarded with the Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE) and Viticulture Durable en Champagne (VDC) labels since May 2021. On the winemaking side, the couple have instilled the same exacting standards, essential for an independent winemaker. Because here, everything is done on site, from the press to the winery. Each champagne in the range has its own personality. Structured and complex, the Cuvée Hommage reveals a fresh attack blending woody notes with dried fruit and café mocha. A delight to be savored with a pan-fried selection of just-picked porcini mushrooms.
