Sustainable viticulture in Champagne

In April 2014 the Comité Champagne decided to give a new impulse to the sustainable grape production approach.

Just one year after this initiative the system has now been recognised by gaining environmental certification from the French Agriculture, Food Processing and Forestry Ministry.

This shows not only the credibility of the method but also the continued commitment of Champagne wine producers to both economic and environmental excellence in grape production.

After a few months, more than 2000 hectares – amounting to 6% of the land area - now have « Viticulture Durable en Champagne » certification.

The goal is to encourage all vineyards to make progress in this direction.
