Champagne Monial
15 km from the Abbey of Clairvaux, away from the village, the Monial estate invites you to discover champagne and its history dating back to the 12th century. Here, you can explore the remains of the former pressing center of the Cistercian monks of Clairvaux. It was Saint Bernard of Clairvaux who initiated the construction of this cellar. Your eyes will undoubtedly be drawn to the majestic stained glass window of the chapel. During the visit, you will learn that the family, owners of the estate for four generations, has preserved the know-how and traditions while adding a touch of modernity, particularly in the vat room. The 600 m² cellar is a highlight of the visit. Unique in Champagne, it has been listed as a historical monument since 1919. The two oculi (openings at the top of a vault) bear witness to the ancestral methods of the monks of the Abbey of Clairvaux. They pressed the grapes upstairs, and the must was poured directly into the cellar through these openings. You can come and discover our range of champagne all year round. It is recommended to book in advance.
