Tuesday Talks: Champagne in the Age of the Counts

Wysiwyg

What remains in 2026 of the Counts of Champagne? An old castle tower in Chaumont, the tomb of a countess in Châlons-en-Champagne, stained-glass windows scattered across Troyes, London, and New York, manuscripts from the counts’ library in Paris and Troyes, a vast body of documents preserved in archival repositories across France … and Navarre. And memories buried deep in the collective unconscious that still bear witness to the prestige of the former principality which, from the 11th to the 14th century, stood at the heart of political, economic, and intellectual life in the Western world.
