‘Vignobles & Découvertes’ Label

In a communiqué dated 29 April 2013, the Ministries of Tourism and Agriculture have granted ‘Vignobles & Découvertes’ labelling to the following six Champagne production regions:

  • The Montagne de Reims
  • The Massif de Saint Thierry and the Ardre Valley
  • The Coteaux Sud d’Epernay and the Côte des Blancs
  • The Coteaux du Sézannais
  • The Marne Valley
  • The Côte des Bar

More than 400 stakeholders, including 139 producers and Champagne Houses, have been approved under the new system. Selection is based on individual commitment to a national ‘quality charter’ and is open to players across a wide range of activities – cellar visits; accommodation; leisure; heritage; museums; travel agencies; and tourist offices.

The vineyards of the Coteaux Vitryats and the western Marne Valley plan to be next, its producers now engaged in an all-out effort to meet the new requirements.

This move – the first of its kind in Champagne history – marks the outcome of a pilot scheme jointly launched by the Comité Interprofessionnel du Vin de Champagne, the Champagne-Ardenne regional tourist board, the tourist boards of the departments of the Marne, Aube and Haute Marne, and the regional Chamber of Agriculture.
