PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES
The CIVC has been granted wide reaching powers to enable it to be active in all areas: economic, technical, social, commercial and legal.
• For a better economic balance
As the Champagne Houses have to maintain stocks representing several years’ shipments whilst paying particular attention to the maintenance of their quality, the need to balance fluctuating harvests with minimal disturbance to supply requirements is all important.
Previously, fluctuations in both grape and wine prices meant that neither the vine-grower nor the négociant enjoyed a secure position. The CIVC, by regulating the market and registering all harvest transactions, rectified the problem and ensured price transparency.
• For higher technical standards
The Technical department, equipped with ultra modern facilities, enjoys a high level of expertise in all fields; viticulture and oenology, disease prevention climatology, microbiology, etc. for the benefit of the industry.
Permanent assistance through analysis and consultancy is available for winemakers.
Technical assistance ensures that the best methods of vine cultivation are known to all concerned.
Development of the Quality Charter.
Participation in national wine research programs.
• For commercial expansion
Compilation of statistics, export market studies, general documentation and the provision of certificates of origin for every consignment exported outside of EC.
• For the protection of the Champagne appellation
The CIVC defends the Champagne Appellation against wrongful, illegal or unauthorised use in many countries.
• For the public information
Communication campaigns, edition of leaflets, public relations activities in France and abroad.
