Participants paraded in traditional costumes, joined by elected officials and government ministers, all brandishing brightly coloured balloons promoting Champagne’s Unesco application.

The balloons were released at the end of the parade: some 500 in all, launched into the skies above the Hôtel de Ville of Epernay, symbolizing what Pierre Cheval, president of the Champagne Landscapes Association described as: “the bubbles in Champagne bringing happiness and peace to people everywhere”.
