Suvad Zlatic has become the 10th winner of the European Champagne Ambassadors Competition. Zlatic was Austria’s best sommelier in 2014 and teaches sommeliers and hotel school students. He arranges over 20 seminars about Champagne in Austria every year. He is also an active member of the Tyrol association of sommeliers and the Austrian sommeliers’ association. This is the first time that Austria has scooped the award.
The UK’s competitor, Simon Stockton, an educator and organizer of wine events, was the runner-up in this year’s competition.
Finally, the judging panel’s special prize was awarded to Italy’s representative, Bernardo Conticelli. He is a wine consultant and is tasked with wine industry promotions.
The nine finalists from the national selection processes competed this year on the topic of reserve wines. The finalists had to deliver a Champagne lesson to the judging panel comprising 10 wine industry professionals from the competing countries and then give a commentary on a tasting of three wines.
Following ten years of competition, the national and European Champagne Ambassadors form a network of passionate educators who convey their knowledge worldwide and hold a large number of training sessions every year.
The awards were handed over at a gala evening in Rheims attended by local industry professionals.
