It’s the annual celebration of the Champagne Winegrowers’ fraternity of St Vincent!
After Reims in 2007 and Troye in 2010, the Champagne Winegrowers’ fraternity of St Vincent has chosen Château-Thierry to celebrate Saint Vincent.
It’s the second time, after the initial premier edition in 2004, that Château Thierry has been so honored.
The celebration of Saint Vincent is an occasion to share in the intergenerational conviviality.
1000 costumed participants, 60 fraternities and champagne houses have taken to the streets of the city of Aisne in the beginning of the afternoon with a color-filled parade, setting out from the train station towards Saint-Crépin’s church. This walking celebration will march to the sound of three fanfare bands: The Château-Thierry Musical Union, the Chézy-sur-Marne fanfare and the Charly-Saâcy fanfare.
The Saint Crépin de Château-Thierry church will be the host of a mass that will be celebrated by the Bishop of Soissons, Monsignor Hervé Giraud. The religious ceremony will be punctuated by the songs of choirs from throughout the region, including the Charly par Choeur Choir, whose harmony is provided by a group of singing barrel makers.
Each of these fraternities dreams of winning the St. Vincent trophy. Each year, it is awarded to the fraternity that is judged as best representing the values of the patron saint of winemakers through the quality of their action and service provided to Champagne. A jury composed of eminent cultural, economic, political and social personalities will take the time to listen to each contestant present the specific cultural and historical specificities of their fraternity for 3 minutes. There will then follow a wine tasting session of natural base wines provided by each of the represented vineyards.
The Saint-Vincent and Saint-Paul du Sud-Est de l'Aube fraternity won the trophy this year, and the Avenay-Val d'Or fraternity inherited the honorary banner. Both fraternities are headed by young members!
At the Château-Thierry castle, last Saturday, 1000 people paraded through the streets of the city. What a delight!
