The President of the negociants M.Ghislain de Montgolfier and the President of the vine-growers M.Pascal Férat are the main movers of the organisation. They possess specific powers, sign decisions, preside at meetings and officially represent the CIVC in all circumstances.
The ‘Bureau exécutif’ assisted by the “Conseil” are the decision making arm of the CIVC. They are composed of equal numbers of vine-growers and negociants (6 of each). They meet as often as necessary and deal with everything of interest to the two professions. No decision, however important, is taken without their unanimous agreement. This association between negociants and vine-growers serves as the foundation for the CIVC.
The Government Commissioner represents the government. He attends the meetings of the Bureau exécutif and approves the decisions. Since the Ministerial Order of March 11, 1986, the Government Commissioner has been the Prefect of Champagne-Ardenne.
Specialist committees group together growers and negociants, chosen for their fields of expertise and professional acumen, to report to the Bureau exécutif on various activities.
Each association has its own organisational structure. The « Syndicat Général des Vignerons » is made up of the representatives of 250 local grower groups. The « Union des Maisons de Champagne » brings together most of the Champagne Houses.
