L'archiconfrérie Saint Vincent des vignerons de la Champagne (St Vincent’s fraternity of Champagne wine-growers)
The festival of St Vincent is one of the key events of the Champagne winter, celebrated by Champagne Houses, growers and people from across the industry.
It all started in the 1930s with the founding of the Archiconfrérie of Saint Vincent, a mutual-aid fraternity that brings together some 30 separate brotherhoods in 319 wine-producing villages. Celebrations remained a strictly local affair until 1991 when they became the grand festival we know today, thanks to some inspired thinking by Brigitte Chandon-Moët, Jean-Paul Médard and Michel Janisson (president of the Epernay brotherhood).
Every three years, the festival ‘relocates’ from its traditional home of Epernay to other places such as Troyes, Reims or Château-Thierry.
